Ephesians 4:1-6

Ok, I read these verses today and they really spoke to me as we look forward to the launch of Hub City Church and try to remain as one body for Jesus. I know that Satan is trying his best to destroy us before we even get started. In light of that, I wanted to just give you a few translations of these verses.

NIV: 1As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

The Message: 1-3In light of all this, here’s what I want you to do. While I’m locked up here, a prisoner for the Master, I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline—not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences. 4-6You were all called to travel on the same road and in the same direction, so stay together, both outwardly and inwardly. You have one Master, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who rules over all, works through all, and is present in all. Everything you are and think and do is permeated with Oneness.

New Life: 1I am being held in prison because of working for the Lord. I ask you from my heart to live and work the way the Lord expected you to live and work. 2Live and work without pride. Be gentle and kind. Do not be hard on others. Let love keep you from doing that. 3Work hard to live together as one by the help of the Holy Spirit. Then there will be peace. 4There is one body and one Spirit. There is one hope in which you were called. 5There is one Lord and one faith and one baptism. 6There is one God. He is the Father of us all. He is over us all. He is the One working through us all. He is the One living in us all.

Contemporary English: 1As a prisoner of the Lord, I beg you to live in a way that is worthy of the people God has chosen to be his own. 2Always be humble and gentle. Patiently put up with each other and love each other. 3Try your best to let God’s Spirit keep your hearts united. Do this by living at peace. 4All of you are part of the same body. There is only one Spirit of God, just as you were given one hope when you were chosen to be God’s people. 5We have only one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. 6There is one God who is the Father of all people. Not only is God above all others, but he works by using all of us, and he lives in all of us.
