Frankie and I are currently helping to start a church in Spartanburg, SC called Hub City Church. Why do we need a new church in Spartanburg? We are in the buckle of the Bible belt, yet statistics show that we aren’t much better off than any other area. On any given Sunday morning, almost 80% of people between the ages of 20 and 30 are not in church. We want to start a church for unchurched people…. people who don’t attend church on a regular basis, people who have never stepped foot inside a church, people who have never heard the name of Jesus. God calls us to go out into the world and make disciples. That is what our mission at Hub City Church is: to make disciples who make disciples. What is a disciple? We define a disciple simply as someone who hears from God and does what he says. Simple.
A lot of churches today are focused inward, making sure church members are happy. We want to be a church where church members are serving the world. One way of doing this is to serve in our Sunday worship services. We launched Hub City Church on September 21st, 2008 and we are growing daily in more ways than just numbers. We have many volunteers on our event staff to make the Sunday morning gathering exciting and relevant and a fabulous band lead by Josh Rogers. But there is so much more to serving then the Sunday morning gathering. We want our people to go out into the world and make a difference. We want Hub City Church to have such an impact on Spartanburg that if we were to close our doors, the community would be adamantly opposed to us doing so. We want Spartanburg to be different because Hub City Church is here. One way we are doing this is through Movies in the Park. As I write this, we are coming up to the first MIP of 2009. Last year, we had over 8500 people attend the four events and this year is sure to be even better with God’s blessing. God has truly blessed us in this. MIP is a first step in the journey of knowing Jesus. We want to change people’s opinion of church so that they might come and see what Jesus is really about. We are so excited that God has allowed us to be a part of this.
If you are a Christ follower, please pray for us as we continue to seek God’s will for Hub City Church and as we spread our influence in the community through MIP. If you aren’t a Christ follower, come see us! This is the church for you! If you want to be a part of our vision, contact us at hubcitychurch@gmail.com. Visit us at www.hubcitychurch.com
I have included a video that Frankie did on God’s calling on our life.
